Lionel Messi is reportedly still very much open to the idea of staying at Barcelona as a final decision over his future draws ever closer.
There has been a huge amount of speculation regarding the six-time Ballon d'Or winner ever since he stunned the footballing world by demanding a transfer last summer.
Although he was not granted his wish at the time, with the 33-year-old's contract set to expire in June the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have been touted as potential candidates to swoop for the Argentinean superstar.
However, Spanish outlet Marca believe that Messi could yet be convinced to remain at the Nou Camp - depending on how the new presidential elections go.
They claim that Messi's main issue was with former president Josep Bartomeu, who has since left the club.
And if the new man at the helm - who is expected to be Joan Laporta - can convince Messi the club have a bright future, he could yet sign a new deal.
It is claimed that money is not a motivating factor for Messi, and he is also thought to have not been impressed by PSG's less-than-subtle public declarations over their intentions to sign him.
As of yet it is thought Messi and his father and agent Jorge have not entered formal negotiations with any parties, and are currently only focused on the rest of Barcelona's season.
Messi and his family are happily settled in Spain, and if the team were performing on the pitch there would arguably be no doubt whatsoever over his future.
However, Messi is desperate for the chance to win at least one more Champions League before he retires, and the chances of doing that with the Catalan giants any time soon currently look slim.
A final decision is not expected to be made until April or May at the earliest, and with Barcelona's new president to be announced in March it could prove to be a crucial month as D-day approaches.
