Lionel Messi's dad responds to PSG transfer links as Man City receive another boost

Lionel Messi's dad has rubbished recent speculation linking the Barcelona superstar with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi, 33, is out of contract at the end of the season and PSG have been touted as a potential destination for the Argentine.

The Ligue 1 giants are believed to be one of the few clubs in Europe capable of meeting Messi's wage demands, while Neymar has urged his former teammate to move to Parc des Princes and rekindle their prolific partnership.

Reports in Spain claimed Jorge Messi, who acts as the six-time Ballon d'Or winner's agent, even met with PSG chiefs at the Qatari consulate in Barcelona last week.

But Jorge has taken to social media to disprove such reports, writing on an Instagram story: "False. Yet another invention. I've been in Argentina since September. #Fakenews."

The update from Messi's dad and agent will come as a boost to Manchester City, who are also vying for the player's signature.

Pep Guardiola is keen to reunite with his former player at the Etihad and the City boss has also been buoyed by another development at Camp Nou.

Barcelona are unable to continue paying Messi's wages, according to a presidential candidate, increasing the likelihood he will leave Catalonia at the end of the season.

“In the club’s current situation, Messi’s salary is not sustainable, so we’ll have to reach an agreement with him,” said presidential hopeful Emili Rousaud.

“We will present an attractive project to him. What matters most here is the sporting project. When Messi said he was leaving, he didn’t mention money.

“He has the highest salary in the world, no-one earns more than him. He doesn’t want to leave because he earns too little.

“He wants to leave because he wants to win trophies. He referred to that recently when he said 'the Champions League is not within our reach'. He wants a team full of talent.”
