Lionel Messi makes major Liverpool admission as Barcelona nightmare continues

Lionel Messi believes Barcelona fans are 'running out of patience' after they lost their La Liga crown to Real Madrid following high-profile failures in the Champions League against Liverpool and Roma.

Madrid were crowned La Liga winners tonight following a 2-1 victory over Villarreal while Barcelona lost 2-1 at home to Osasuna.

Messi was part of the Barcelona team that crashed out of the Champions League semi-final at Anfield last season after leading the first-leg by three goals. They similarly imploded against Roma at the quarter-final stage the previous term.

And the Argentine believes Barcelona will exit again if they do not change their fortunes on the field with a decisive round of 16 second-leg against Napoli approaching in August.

"Roma, Liverpool... the fans are running out of patience because we're not giving them anything," Messi said. "If we want to fight for the Champions League, a lot has to change. Like this, we will lose to Napoli.

“We didn’t want to end the season like this but it represents how the season has gone. We were a very erratic, very weak, low-intensity team…

"We lost a lot of points and today’s game is a summary of the season.

“We were inconsistent during the season. Real Madrid did their thing. We lost a lot of points. We have to do some self-criticism. We are Barça.”
