Lionel Messi makes fresh admission about Barcelona's defeat by Liverpool

Lionel Messi says Barcelona's failings last season left him with a bitter taste in his mouth.

The Catalan giants won La Liga at a canter but were looking to go all the way in the Champions League too.

They thumped Liverpool 3-0 in the first leg of their semi-final at Camp Nou, and were expected to see the job out in the return match at Anfield.

But Jurgen Klopp's Reds side pulled off the unthinkable, overturning the three-goal deficit and then some to beat Barcelona 4-3 and progress to the final.

Speaking about Barcelona's failings last season, Messi addressed the Catalan faithful ahead of Sunday's Joan Gamper trophy match against Arsenal.

"The truth is that it's very difficult to say something today after what happened last season, but I don't regret anything," said Messi.

"I repeat what I said last season. I trust in this squad, these players, this coaching staff and I have no doubts that we will fight for everything again.

"Last season ended up with a bitter taste because of what happened."

Barcelona ran out 2-1 winners over the Gunners at Camp Nou on the weekend with Luis Suarez netting late to secure victory.
