Lionel Messi makes Barcelona transfer decision as Chelsea plan to continue spending spree

Messi transfer decision

Reported Chelsea target Lionel Messi will be staying at Barcelona for another season at least, the Argentine forward has revealed.

Despite Messi very publicly revealing that he wanted to leave the Camp Nou, the 33-year-old has now insisted he will be staying put at the La Liga giants.

Messi demanded to leave Barca at the end of August, activating a clause in his deal that he then believed would allow him to leave the club on a free transfer.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner then refused to engage with any of the club’s medical tests or training sessions, and the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City were naturally linked.

Chelsea spending spree

Chelsea have led the way when it comes to spending in the Premier League this summer.

Kai Havertz adds to the already impressive haul of five other players over the course of the window.

Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva have all put pen to paper with the Blues in a new era under Frank Lampard.

Havertz is another key string to that attacking bow, having shown in the Bundesliga what he can do for Bayer Leverkusen.

Chelsea’s recruitment has turned plenty of heads over the past few months.

Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, and Malang Sarr have all arrived at Stamford Bridge, and there will be further business done before the window closes on October 5.

Kai Havertz has arrived, whilst a new goalkeeper is also on the agenda.
