Lionel Messi leaves Miralem Pjanic red-faced after Barcelona transfer claim

Miralem Pjanic may already be starting to rue his decision to move from Juventus to Barcelona - due to the fact he allegedly claimed the main pull was the prospect of playing with Lionel Messi.

It was confirmed in June that Barca would be signing the midfielder for a deal worth around £53m, with Arthur Melo going the other way.

And at the time it was reported by the likes of Mexican outlet Milenio that the 30-year-old had told family members that the main reason he had wanted to make the move was to get the opportunity to play with six-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi.

He also said he had received more lucrative offers than the one from Barcelona, but was more interested in sharing a pitch with Messi.

With the Argentinean superstar's future now up in the air following his dramatic transfer request last week, however, there is the very real possibility that Pjanic will never even have a training session with his hero.

Pjanic himself has had a difficult start to his Barcelona career after testing positive for COVID-19, and the player is now unable to travel to Spain to join up with his new club until the end of this week.

He will not be allowed to start training until September 7, and is likely to need some time to get himself into peak condition before he is able to make his debut for the club.

Messi, meanwhile, has been AWOL from both Barcelona's coronavirus testing on Sunday and the start of their pre-season training this week as he looks to push through a move to Manchester City.

It is believed his father Jorge is due to meet with Barcelona representatives on Wednesday to try to sort out his son's future, as the world waits in anticipation to see what his next move is.
