Lionel Messi hails Pep Guardiola amid Man City reunion speculation

Lionel Messi has claimed Pep Guardiola "has something special" as speculation over a reunion at Manchester City continues.

The Barcelona star attempted to leave the Nou Camp in the summer before opting to stay put.

Several clubs were linked with his services but only a select few could financially afford such a deal.

One of those is City and they have the added lure of working with Guardiola once again.

The Catalan and Messi teamed up to make Barcelona perhaps the greatest club side of all time during a trophy-laden four-year period.

And the Argentine has spoken highly of his former mentor which will only serve to heighten specualtion.

“Pep has something special. He makes you see things in a wonderful way, how he prepares for games, how to defend, and how to attack," Messi said in an exclusive interview to be shown in Spain on La Sexta.

“I was lucky to train under Guardiola and Luis Enrique, the two best. Having them made me grow a lot physically and mentally, and also the tactical wisdom they’ve taught me”

Guardiola recently signed a two-year extension at the Etihad which means he will remain in Manchester until 2023.

Connections had been made about a move for Messi which could enhance his chances of winning the Champions League for a third time.

The 33-year-old though has come out recently and expressed a desire to achieve more success at Barcelona.

The Spanish giants have endured a swift fall from grace and do not look equipped to challenge for honours.

They are eight points off the pace in La Liga but Messi has seemingly put the past behind him and wants to drive Barcelona forward.

He added: “I had a bad time because of the end of the season & because of what happened in the summer, but now I feel good, eager, excited.

"I know the club is going through a difficult moment, but I am excited and wanting to fight.”
