Lionel Messi hailed as Barcelona step up preparations for La Liga resumption

Lionel Messi's enthusiasm has been hailed as contagious by team-mate Jordi Alba as Barcelona prepare for La Liga to resume next week.

The campaign has been suspended since March due to the coronavirus pandemic with the Catalan giants two points clear of rivals Real Madrid at the top of the table.

However, Barcelona are back in training and will resume their season on June 13 with a trip to Real Mallorca.

Messi has returned to training raring to go and Alba claims the Argentine's positive attitude has rubbed off on the rest of the squad.

The left back told TVE: "He's a vital player of us and we should enjoy having him all the time.

"Seeing Leo with the enthusiasm he's come back with is contagious for the rest of the group.

"I see the team as having a lot of enthusiasm," Spain international Alba added.

"Mentally and physically we players have come back really well I would say, even better than we were before."

Neymar continues to be linked with a return to the Nou Camp, three years after he left the club in a world-record €222million transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

Alba said: "He's clearly a unique player and he gave us a lot. He chose and looked for other goals."
