Lionel Messi gives brilliant verdict on Man City boss Pep Guardiola

Lionel Messi has hailed Pep Guardiola as the best manager he has played under.

Messi won two Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles, two Spanish Cups, two Club World Cups and two UEFA Super Cups under Guardiola at Barcelona among his enormous trophy haul throughout his career.

The Argentine also won four consecutive Ballon d'Or titles between 2009 and 2012 and two UEFA Best Player in Europe titles.

Guardiola left the Nou Camp in 2012 before another successful spell at Bayern Munich and his current position at Manchester City.

Barcelona have had four managers since, but only Luis Enrique has come close to matching Guardiola's 14-trophy haul at the club.

So understandably, Messi has named the City boss as the best manager he has played under in his career.

"Guardiola is the best of all," he said. "Luis Enrique is a very close [second].

"I was fortunate to live many at different stages of my life but I think the Guardiola era was one of my best moments."

Messi also named Spain's 2010 World Cup winners as the best side he has faced, with David Silva featuring in a 2-1 win for his country against Argentina in 2009.

He said: "The Spanish team, we played a friendly at Atletico's stadium.

"Maradona was our coach and it was before the 2010 World Cup when they became champions. It was one of the matches that surprised me the most."
