Lionel Messi 'drama' spotted by Bayern Munich stars ahead of Champions League thrashing

Barcelona's 8-2 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich proved the last straw for Lionel Messi.

The Argentinian superstar has told the Nou Camp club he wants an immediate exit in the wake of their ongoing Champions League failures.

They were embarrassed by the German club - the eventual winners - in their quarter-final in Lisbon with Messi understandably upset.

But, according to Bayern defender Jerome Boateng, it was easy to see the "drama" between Messi and Barcelona ahead of the game.

The Catalan club were pipped to the La Liga title by Real Madrid and there was plenty of frustration with now-former manager Quique Setien before things unravelled in Portugal.

"You noticed in advance that there was drama between Messi and Barcelona," Boateng told Bild .

He went on to state that Messi would be a good fit at his former club, Manchester City, to reunite with Pep Guardiola.

He added: "Pep and Messi have celebrated great successes together, which is why both sides know that their philosophies would fit together."

"There have not yet been any talks beyond my contract, but it is clear to me that I will be happy to continue the path under Hansi Flick," he said.

"My family and I feel very much at home in Munich. I am sure that we can achieve a lot with this team again next year. I want to be part of it again."

Pressed on his relationship with Flick, he responded: "He's absolutely clear on a human level, he doesn't fool you, but he also demands something for it. He supported me, but also challenged me."
