Lionel Messi admits he has been 'impressed' by how well Cristiano Ronaldo has started life back at Manchester United this season.
The Portuguese ace re-joined United in the summer transfer window after a late intervention from the club to prevent him from joining their fierce domestic rivals Man City.
Messi will be in action against City in the Champions League on Wednesday night and ahead of the match he was asked about his great rival Ronaldo since they both moved clubs in the summer.
Ronaldo has netted nine goals in 14 appearances for United so far this season while the Argentine has scored four in nine games since he moved to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona.
Messi has praised his great rival for the manner in which he took back to life in English football and he also praised the squad depth of managerless United.
“United is a very strong team with great players," he told Marca.
"Cristiano already knew the club, but that was in another stage and now he has adapted in an impressive way. From the beginning he has scored goals as always and had no problems adapting. In the Premier League things aren’t as we all thought, but it is a very difficult and even competition in which things take a lot of turns. After December it changes a lot and anything can happen.”
