Lionel Messi breaks down as Barcelona icon fights back tears in emotional exit press conference

An emotional Lionel Messi broke down in tears as he struggled for words to describe his Barcelona departure.

The Camp Nou icon held a press conference on Sunday morning to address his exit from the La Liga giants.

Messi's contract with the club has not been renewed and he has been strongly linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite agreeing a new deal, Barcelona are unable to register the 34-year-old due to La Liga 's salary cap.

And he admitted he almost lost for words as he took the stage in front of the assembled press in Spain.

He said: "The truth is I don't want to say it, these recent days I've been thinking about what I could say, and the truth is that I can't think of anything.

"This is really difficult for me after so many years, being here my entire life. I'm not ready for this.

"And honestly, last year, with all the nonsense with the burofax, I was convinced I knew what I wanted to say. This year, I don't."

Messi then took questions and confirmed he's in talks with PSG over a move to Ligue 1.

However, he maintains his next move has not yet been decided.

He said: "It is a possibility, but I have not agreed anything with anyone. I got different clubs interested. And nothing is definitive but clearly we are talking to them."
