Lionel Hollins, Frank Vogel and Mike Woodson in the mix for Lakers job

The Los Angeles Lakers are going to open up their coaching search after failing to come to terms with former Cavaliers head coach Ty Lue.

After Monty Williams took the job with the Phoenix Suns and the Lakers moved on from Lue, the only other candidates they interviewed were Jason Kidd and Miami Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard. Both coaches are former players  with strong connections to LeBron, but the Lakers are going to expand their search with some more veteran coaches.

Vogel’s inclusion is fascinating, especially considering that Lue was considering having him on his staff as a lead assistant. But nothing can ever be easy for the Lakers and so, they’re going to interview a few more veteran coaches that they might feel they can influence a little bit more.

The Lakers are moving on and Lue apparently is as well, after feeling disrespected by the Lakers offers in light of his championship experience and over .600 winning percentage as a head coach.

As for the other candidates, they’ve all had differing levels of success but none of them offer the championship pedigree that Lue offered.
