An expert on lions and tigers had to be called in to knock out a devil dog that mauled a defenceless kid, it has emerged.
We learned that the expert was called in to use a tranquiliser gun to sedate the beast after the incident – in which the young kid suffered serious injuries to his leg at his home in south Dublin.
The expert was called in by the Dublin City dog warden over fears that the large dog, believed to be a cross between a Pit Bull and a huge Presa Canario, was simply too large and dangerous to handle while awake.

Canario males can grow to 65cms in height – and weigh 65 kgs, or a whopping 10 stone.
“The warden staff called in this expert to sedate it so it could be moved without anyone else getting hurt,” a source said last night.
Gardai were called to a house in south Dublin when the child, aged around 10, was attacked last Sunday week.
The dog and his owner, an uncle of the child, were visiting when the attack happened.
The child suffered serious knee injuries and was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.
Gardai and the dog’s owner managed to lock it into a room, before taking it to a Garda Station.
The big cat expert was called, and used a tranquiliser gun so it could be taken safely to the pound.
