Lion Air crash: Aerial video shows debris at scene of downed Indonesia plane

Aerial footage shows debris from a passenger plane which crashed shortly after taking off from Indonesia's capital on Monday.

Filmed by the Indonesian Air Force, the scattered debris can be seen floating on the water as search teams enter the area where the Boeing 737 is believed to have crashed.

Flight JT 610 was en route to the western city of Pangkal Pinang. An air transport official has said the flight was cleared to return to Jakarta after the pilot made a "return to base" request two to three minutes after taking off. It plunged into the sea about 10 minutes later.

More than 300 people including soldiers, police and local fishermen have been involved in the search and have recovered human remains, ID cards, personal belongings and aircraft debris.

The brand new plane was carrying 181 passengers, including one child and two babies, and eight crew members.
