Linwood youngster celebrates perfect attendance - keeping up impressive family tradition

A Linwood youngster has followed in the footsteps of her three siblings by getting perfect attendance in her seven years at primary school.

Lily Cameron is celebrating after continuing the impressive family tradition.

Woodlands Primary pupil Lily recorded the remarkable achievement of 100 per cent attendance every year during her time at the Lauder Drive school.

The outstanding feat - which means she has never had a day off - is a tradition in her family, with older sister Leah, 16, and brothers Luke, 15, and Luis, 14, also having managed to keep a perfect record.

Her proud mum Louise, 42, is delighted for her youngest daughter, saying: “She is really pleased with herself.

“She takes it quite seriously and wanted to do it as her sister and brothers all managed to do it too while they were at Woodlands.

“We have just been quite lucky as she has never really been sick when she was supposed to be at school.

“It was the same for her brothers and sister too - they seemed to save all their illnesses for the holidays!

“It has just sort of happened for them but she is really proud to have been able to do it too as she doesn’t like to miss school.”

The tradition started with Leah, who Louise says managed to make it to 100 per cent attendance “by chance” and since then it has become a family tradition as her brothers made their way through school determined to follow in their big sister’s footsteps.

Lily has now managed to finish off her primary education and keep the impressive family record intact.

Louise added: “She got to the point that she was determined to do it.

“She was worried about how Covid-19 would impact her attendance but thankfully she hasn’t been told to isolate. She loves school and doesn’t like to miss anything.

“But even when they had to learn at home, the school were fantastic at keeping in touch and making the pupils feel included.”

Lily, 11, is due to start at Linwood High School after the summer and will join her siblings there.

According mum Louise, she is excited to be taking the big step into S1, although she will miss being at Woodlands.

She added: “Lily has really been at Woodlands her whole life.

“Her big sister Leah started at the school when she was a baby, so she has always been at the school even before she started primary one.

“She is nervous about starting high school but she’s really looking forward to it too.”

Deputy headteacher Aileen McNair said the record set by the Cameron children is “remarkable”.

She said: “We are incredibly proud of Lily and indeed all of her older siblings for achieving an outstanding 100 per cent attendance record throughout their time at Woodlands Primary School.

“For the entire family to achieve this is quite remarkable. We wish Lily every success as she moves on to high school.”
