Linwood residents work with Renfrewshire Council on spruce up

Renfrewshire Council and members of the public have put their heads together and come up with a plan to spruce up parts of Linwood.

Staff and volunteers will join forces to make a series of environmental improvements – targeting a number of locations in the vicinity of the town’s popular ON-X leisure centre.

A variety of measures are under consideration, including tree works along the town’s Brediland Road, as well as on the access road to the OneRen venue, and the reintroduction of lighting around the skatepark.

The local authority has also confirmed a small play facility in Erskinefauld Road – known as the ‘concrete den’ – could become an enclosed area.

The matters were raised by Councillor Alison Ann-Dowling at the final full council meeting of the year.

The Labour representative expressed her gratitude to the community and local authority officers for their cooperation on the planned project during a debate on play parks.

Councillor Ann-Dowling said: “I wanted to thank members of the Linwood community, who I’ve been working with for some time on environmental improvements in the area, particularly the skate park in Linwood, and a small patch of area – you couldn’t call it a play park, it does have some play facilities – in Erskinefauld Road.

“That’s work that’s under way and there’s agreed actions.

“I’d like to thank the officers who I’ve been working alongside to make that happen. I look forward to seeing those environmental improvements going forward.”

When approached by the Paisley Daily Express, the council revealed the full extent of the measures under consideration.

A spokesperson said: “Council staff are working alongside community volunteers to improve the local environment around Linwood.

“The work that’s being considered includes tree works along Brediland Road and the access road to the ON-X, reinstating the lighting around the skatepark, increasing the community wardens’ focus on the area and enclosing the concrete den area.”
