Linlithgow Rose boss Brown Ferguson delighted team are back playing in front of fans

Linlithgow Rose boss Brown Ferguson admits it felt ‘normal’ to be back getting stick from supporters for the first time in over a year.

The Rose got their pre-season schedule off to a winning start after they came back from a goal down to beat Whitburn 3-1 at Central Park.

It was the East of Scotland Premier Division side’s first game in over five months, and the first in front of fans since March 2020.

Speaking to the Courier, he said: “I was really excited by it. Firstly because it’s been five months since we’ve played a game of football and secondly because we had fans in the ground.

“It makes it feel normal to a degree and you could hear the passion from the fans.

“We we were getting a wee bit of stick. It was actually nice to hear stuff like that because it’s been missed. That’s all part of the experience of football.

“It’s great to be back and it was great to see the players go out there and enjoy themselves because ultimately they all want to play football and they haven’t been able to do that for a long time.”

While he says there are plenty of things to improve, the gaffer admits he was delighted by the display at Central Park.

“It was a really competitive game and a great run out. It was the perfect game for us because it was difficult and they put us under pressure but I was really pleased with the players after a slow start, which they could be forgiven for.”

He added: “You could see them take on board what we’d been working on in pre-season in terms of the shape and how we want to play. We saw some good stuff but I think it will only get better the more we play."
