Linlithgow Rose announce departure of club legend

It's the end of an era at Linlithgow Rose after the club announced that striker Tommy Coyne has signed for West of Scotland outfit Pollol.

The move brings about a sensational 13-year stint for Coyne at Prestonfield during which time he became the club's all-time leading goalscorer - finding the net 371 times.

During his time in Linlithgow, the striker helped guide the club to a Scottish Junior Cup triumph, an East Region Junior Super League title as well as picking up four Fife and Lothians Cup winners' medals while consistently being amongst the most prolific strikers outside the SPFL.

In a statement from the club last night, they said the 35-year-old had decided the time was right to take on a new challenge.

It read: "Tonight we reach the end of an era at Linlithgow Rose as Tommy Coyne moves on to pastures new.

"The word 'legend' is over used but there can be no question that TC is one of the football club's all-time greats.

"Since joining the Rose in season 2008/09, Tommy has scored an incredible 371 goals - a feat which feels unlikely to be surpassed. It's not just his goals - they're the result of natural ability combined with an outstanding football brain and ability to read the game.

"Tommy has decided it's time to take a new challenge which better suits his needs at this stage in his career and we wish him well as he moves to Pollok.

"Thank you for everything you've done for Linlithgow Rose, TC. You've been a fantastic player and ambassador for this club and we wish you every success going forward."
