Linlithgow Distillery are making hand sanitiser to assist with the cornavirus crisis

A gin distillery from West Lothian has stopped production and is now making alcohol hand sanitiser to assist with the coronavirus crisis.

Linlithgow Distillery usually produce LinGin and Four Marys gins but the factory has ceased their normal lines to make much-needed hand sanitiser.

They have been really busy in recent weeks distributing supplies of 70 per cent alcohol sanitiser to key businesses, critical front-line services and members of the local community.

Whilst they have been supplying local businesses they also managed to donate 250 litres so far to free of charge to charities and frontline workers who need it most.

Due to the risk of infection inside the distillery and problems with sourcing suitable containers, they are operating a refill service at their front roller door. They ask all customers to observe the social distancing guidelines. The owners at the distillery, Ross and Alyson Jamieson, have offered a huge thank you to the local community and businesses over the past two weeks.

A spokesperson said: “By purchasing Linlithgow Distillery’s hand sanitiser this past week, you have enabled us to sell at greatly reduced cost and donate over 250 litres of product to many frontline services, charities and those caring for our vulnerable people. Big shout out also to the Party At The Palace team, especially John Richardson, for donating the small bottles we are handing out to NHS staff and the foodbanks.”

Some of the organisations who have been donated free hand sanitiser include: NHS, Scottish Ambulance Service, Police Scotland, HM Prisons, Royal Mail, St Michael’s Hospital, Linlithgow Care Home, Brae Court/Bield Housing, Barnardos, The Samaritans, The Food Train and West Lothian and Forth Valley Foodbanks.

The distillery aims to be open during the week from 11am-5pm but they urge the public not to rush to be there for 11am. They also ask the public look at their Facebook page for announcements https://www.facebook.com/linlithgowdistillery/
