Linkin Park Releases New Versions Of 'Friendly Fire' Single

Linkin Park band

Linkin Park recently made a comeback with their new single titled “Friendly Fire,” released in late February. This track serves as a preview for their upcoming compilation album, Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000–2023), scheduled for release later this month. To boost the song's performance on the charts, the band has adopted a common marketing strategy in the music industry.

On March 29, Linkin Park unveiled two additional versions of “Friendly Fire” - an a cappella and an instrumental version. Both versions are now available for purchase and streaming. While these new versions may not significantly alter the song, it is a tactic often used by artists to cater to dedicated fans who enjoy exploring different renditions of a track.

Billboard combines the consumption of all versions of a song into a single charting entity. This means that streams, sales, and airplay of all editions of “Friendly Fire” will contribute to its performance on the Billboard charts. Currently, the song is gaining traction on various rock radio formats, reaching No. 2 on the Alternative Airplay chart and maintaining its No. 4 position on the Mainstream Rock Airplay list.

Despite facing competition from Green Day's “Dilemma,” which recently claimed the top spot on the Rock & Alternative Airplay ranking, Linkin Park's “Friendly Fire” continues to garner attention. The band's strategic release of new versions aims to further boost the song's popularity and chart performance.

If the track continues to receive strong support from rock radio stations and sees an increase in sales and streams, Linkin Park stands a chance to climb higher on various Billboard lists. While the song has dropped on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, there is potential for a reversal in its ranking in the coming days.

The success of “Friendly Fire” is crucial for Linkin Park's upcoming compilation album, as a strong lead single can significantly impact the album's performance on the charts. Anticipation is high among fans of the band, and a successful chart run for the single will likely translate into a positive reception for the compilation upon its release later this month.
