Eight miles of queues with link road between the M60 and M62 closed

The sliproad linking the M62 and M60 has been closed after a lorry crashed, causing a diesel spillage.

The HVG 'lost control and struck the nearside barrier', Highways England said.

It led to a diesel spillage across both lanes of the carriageway.

No one has been seriously hurt.

Police said the driver has been assessed by paramedics. He suffered 'very minor injuries'.

The road 'may be closed for some time' police say (Highways England)

The eastbound slip road at junction 12, through Salford, has been closed. It is causing traffic to build up in the area.

As of around 6pm, there were said to be delays of eight miles with severe delays on the M60, M602 and the A57.

"Closure likely to be in place for sometime for recovery and clear up. Please consider alternative routes," North West Motorway Police tweeted.

In an update just after 4pm, police said: "M62 EB > M60 clockwise slip remains closed for clean up following earlier RTC. There are delays on the M62.

"There are also a few vehicles broken down in live lanes. A police patrol is in the area assisting Highways & free recovery to get these cleared as quickly as possible."

There are currently two diversion options being advised by Highways England.

Traffic can join the M60 anticlockwise and come off at junction 11, then turn at the roundabout to join the M60 clockwise.

Drivers can also continue on the M62 eastbound to join the M602, exit at junction 2 then turn at the roundabout to join the M602 westbound and follow the M60 clockwise link road.
