Lingard Hospital staff member tested positive but situation 'under control'

A staff member at Lingard Hospital at Merewether tested positive to the coronavirus almost two weeks ago, but hospital management says the transmission has not spread.

Lingard chief executive Warwick Crosby said the situation was "all managed and under control".

Asked what the infected person's job was at the hospital, Mr Crosby said: "It wasn't in a nursing role."

The Newcastle Herald understands the person was not a doctor, either.

Mr Crosby said public health officials had contacted all of the person's contacts, one of whom was in isolation.

"It was all casual contact and people have been tested and no one's come back positive," he said.

"There hasn't been any transmission to anyone."

The infected person is also still in isolation.

Hunter New England Health said it did not publish details of cases if there was no public interest and there was no risk of further transmission.

The Hunter New England Health district has reported no new coronavirus cases for the third day running.

NSW Health figures show the cumulative number of positive tests in the region at 8pm on Wednesday was 270, down from 276 the previous day.

Six cases previously attributed to the health district have been removed from the tally because subsequent screening showed they were not positive tests.

The HNEH district has added 22 cases in the past eight days, an average of fewer than three per day.
