Linfield winger Joel Cooper free to face Cliftonville following registration issue

Linfield winger Joel Cooper is free to face Cliftonville on Tuesday night after a registration issue with his loan deal from Oxford United was resolved by the Irish FA.

Cooper, who rejoined the club last month, had to be pulled from David Healy’s line-up at the last minute on Saturday after a problem emerged with his contract.

Healy blamed the glitch on embarrassed Irish FA officials who launched a probe and moved swiftly to address the matter with affected clubs over the weekend.

Carrick Rangers had a similar registration problem hanging over striker Jordan Jenkins who signed on loan from Glenavon last week.

It is understood the affected clubs were asked to resubmit paperwork and amend dates on the respective agreements.

An IFA spokesman said: “We have worked with clubs to assist with the resubmission of loan agreements in order for those players to participate in Tuesday’s fixtures.”

It means Cooper, who joined Oxford from Linfield last summer, is free to line-out for the Blues as they prepare to face Cliftonville at Solitude on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Likewise, new Carrick striker Jenkins is set to make his debut for Niall Currie’s men after being cleared to face Glentoran at The Oval on Tuesday night.
