Linfield striker Michael O'Connor to join Waterford on loan

Linfield have confirmed that striker Michael O'Connor will re-join Waterford on loan.

O'Connor was being linked with a move to Glentoran during the January transfer window.

It is understood the Glens had a bid in the region of £10,000 for the Republic of Ireland youth international turned down by the Blues.

O'Connor - who comes out of contract this summer at Windsor Park - will now link up with Waterford until the end of the season.

Linfield boss David Healy told the club's website: “I want to advise our supporters that we have agreed with Waterford subject to international clearance that Michael O’Connor will return to them on loan until the summer.”

O'Connor initially joined Waterford on loan last July, as part of the deal which saw Bastien Hery join Linfield.

He has not featured for the Blues since returning from that loan spell in October.

O'Connor could join the Glens on a free in the summer if the East Belfast club maintains its interest in the former Shamrock Rovers man.

Speaking earlier this month, Glentoran boss Mick McDermott said: "As far as I am aware we made an offer to Linfield which wasn't accepted.

"I am not sure what else can be done on the matter. If nothing materialises then we will look at our other options.

"That's where we are at right now."
