Linfield player self-isolates following contact with coronavirus carrier

Linfield chairman Roy McGivern has confirmed that a player from the club did not take part in training on Monday night as a precaution against coronavirus.

McGivern confirmed that the player chose to self-isolate following recent contract with a player from Armagh club Hanover FC who tested positive for the virus.

The Linfield footballer's decision to self-isolate was take as a precautionary measure, and chairman McGivern said there was "no need for undue alarm at this stage".

He added: "The player took the decision himself to self-isolate.

"He will now be tested and we will keep in touch with him. There is no need for undue alarm at this stage.

"He has taken the approach that has been recommended by the health authorities."

It was confirmed at the weekend that a player from Hanover FC had tested positive for cononavirus.

The diagnosis was made after he had played in a Mid Ulster Football League game against Coagh United reserves.
