Linfield FC pays tribute to supporter Stephen Bennett following death

Linfield Football Club have paid tribute to a supporter who died just two days after watching the club clinch a 55th league title.

Stephen Bennett, 37, died peacefully in the Royal Victoria Hospital on Thursday.

The day before his death he had been celebrating Linfield's latest Premiership success, sharing videos and photos of the Blues winning the Gibson Cup.

In a statement shared on their website, Linfield said: " Linfield FC records with sadness the passing of supporter Stephen Bennett aged 37.

"Stephen passed away peacefully in the Royal Victoria hospital on 27th May.

"Stephen was originally from Carryduff but was living in Crossgar. He was married to Jennifer and they had 2 young children Ella and James.

"The day before his passing he had been sharing videos and photos of Linfield winning the league.

"The sympathy and condolences of everyone at the club are conveyed to the family circle at this sad time.

"Audaces Fortuna Juvat."
