Linfield chairman Roy McGivern says club preparing for final despite uncertainty

Linfield chairman Roy McGivern says the Blues remain in preparation mode for the Irish Cup final despite a potential legal challenge placing a major question mark over tomorrow night’s fixture.

Crusaders stated on Tuesday night that they had “appointed counsel” after losing their semi-final to Larne in a contentious penalty shootout at Mourneview Park.

And while the Irish FA hadn’t received formal notification of an appeal yesterday teatime, it is understood the Crues are looking at all available options.

One potential avenue of appeal is querying the number of Larne players who remained in the shootout after Jonny Tuffey was sent off for moving off his line.

The laws state that each team should be comparable in number during the shootout, even in the event of a red card.

Despite the uncertainty, Linfield and Larne are finalising their plans for tomorrow’s showpiece which is due to be played in front of 1,000 spectators, 500 from each club.

Blues chairman McGivern said: “All I can say is we are preparing for the final and have had supporters at Windsor Park all day registering for tickets and taking away their Covid tests.

“From our point of view, that planning will continue for Friday.”
