Linfield captain Jamie Mulgrew says manager David Healy is 'very lucky man' after fall ordeal

Jamie Mulgrew says David Healy as a "very lucky man" following the Linfield manager's fall ordeal.

Healy underwent surgery on Thursday after sustaining injuries in what the club described as an 'accidental fall' at his home on Wednesday night.

The 41-year-old was released from hospital yesterday and is now recovering at home, and on Saturday the former Northern Ireland striker said he was looking forward to getting back to work "in the near future".

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Linfield skipper Mulgrew reflected the seriousness of the incident.

"The first I knew about it was when the club realised the statement," Mulgrew said

"And then his wife Emma phoned me to let me know the extent of it all.

"Without going into too much detail, David is a very, very lucky man. It was that close.

"I spoke to Emma again yesterday afternoon and he was getting out, so he is on the mend.

"He is a lucky man."

In a statement posted on Linfield's website on Saturday, Healy thanked the medical staff for the care he received "during and after" his surgery in hospital.

He also thanked everyone for their messages of support since news broke of his accident.

"There have been so many that it’s impossible to reply to them all individually but they have all meant a lot to me," he said.
