Linfield boss David Healy offers update on Jimmy Callacher surgery

David Healy has revealed that Jimmy Callacher has had surgery on a "niggly injury".

The Linfield boss said the injury dated back to the end of last season. The 31-year-old made 48 appearances across all competitions in 2021/22.

Healy says Callacher has started his recovery and hopes the influential centre-half is back playing "before too long".

The Blues boss told the club's website: "I want to advise our supporters that the squad arrived home from Spain yesterday, after a very productive and intensive week of pre season preparations in Spain. We now continue our build up to the European campaign, by welcoming Newtown AFC to Windsor Park on Saturday and we are looking forward to that game.

"I want to let everyone know that Jimmy Callacher underwent minor surgery recently. He had a niggly injury dating back to the end of last season and he needed surgery, so that's now been attended to and we will continue to monitor and assess his recovery.

"He didn't travel with us to Spain and he will be unavailable for games for a short period but we will hopefully welcome him back to action before too long."
