Line of Duty: Vicky McClure on co-stars helping her battle loneliness while filming in Belfast

Line of Duty actress Vicky McClure has revealed that her co-stars on the show helped her cope with loneliness while filming in Northern Ireland.

The 38-year-old, who played DI Kate Fleming in the hit BBC series, appeared on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain to discuss her involvement in the One Million Minutes listening benches campaign across the UK to encourage people to strike up a conversation.

She told how Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar were her 'support system' while filming Line of Duty in Belfast.

Vicky said: "In terms of my own loneliness, I've never suffered with it to the point where it's got me in a dark place but I work away a lot, and that is the hardest part of my job.

"Especially when we're doing Line of Duty, we're over in Belfast and that's why I'm so lucky Martin, Adrian and Jed are really good friends because it helps with that loneliness and I love being around Jonny (Owen, her partner) and my family and that means the most to me.

"So when I'm away that's tough, but I certainly feel for people that suffer with loneliness in a much bigger way and I think that's what we're trying to combat with this campaign."

While appearing on Tuesday's show, Vicky was also asked about a possible return of Line of Duty.

"I don't know. I've no idea. Genuinely no idea," she responded.

The finale of the show's sixth season broke records as the UK's most-watched drama of the 21st century so far, attracting a whopping 15.2 million viewers.
