Line Of Duty trailer: Series five teaser promises drama as AC-12 take on Stephen Graham's balaclava man

The wait is finally over for Line of Duty fans after show bosses dropped a series five trailer.

The popular police drama, which follows anti-corruption unit AC-12, returns later this year with the dominant taskforce taking on their toughest task yet - getting to the “root” of the rot in the force.

The six-part series will finally reveal the identity of balaclava man aka John Corbett, played by Stephen Graham, who was the mysterious character in the midst of the drama last series. He is suspected to be under the rule of mysterious puppeteer “H”.

The minute-long trailer reveals that the new series will pick up in the middle of the still-ongoing investigation into the hijacking and murder of three police officers "in cold blood",

And the final frames of the trailer hint that fans will finally discover the identity of “H”, the corrupt cop who was previously teased as pulling the strings.

DS Kate Fleming, played by Vicky McClure, can be heard saying: “This is a chance to crack the highest level corrupt officers and the top man.”

Her colleague DS Steve Arnott, played by Martin Compston, replies that he is “in, whatever it takes”.

Graham, who also starred in Little Boy Blue, is one of two new recruits to the dark side with Girlfriends’ Rochenda Sandall debuting as Lisa McQueen, a shady figure with links to the corrupt underworld .

The police force is also getting two new faces in PC Tatleen Sohota and PS Kyle Ferringham, played by Taj Atwal and Richard Pepple.

Despite the trailer, fans will have to wait a little longer for an air date for Jed Mercurio's hit drama.

His last BBC outing, Bodyguard, broke records for the channel for live and streamed broadcasts as the Richard Madden-led drama went on to become the most successful in decades.

Line Of Duty will return to BBC One this year
