Line of Duty to see return of familiar face in upcoming episode

Line Of Duty fans can expect to see a familiar face making a comeback on Sunday's episode.

DCS Patricia Carmichael was first introduced to viewers in series five as the head of AC-3 when she was charged with the task of questioning AC-12 boss Superintendent Ted Hastings to find out if he was bent copper "H."

Patricia - played by Anna Maxwell - was left red-faced when Ted was revealed to be a clean policeman who follows the letter of the law and in fact, she had a corrupt officer in her own team, as the Mirror reports.

And now the experienced anti-corruption officer is making her way back into AC-12's offices following Ted being forced to take retirement by HQ.

In last weeks episode, Ted was told by his bosses that funding is being taken away from anti-corruption teams meaning that AC 3, 9 and 12 are being forced to merge into one, smaller team to cut costs.

It is yet to be revealed if Patricia's return means she is the person in charge of heading up the new AC department.

Confirming she will once again be putting her DCS uniform on, Patricia told The Evening Standard: “I can’t remember what she’s doing there, nor would I be allowed to blab, but suffice to say she’s got some new clobber and she’s ready to bust some balls.”

In Sunday's episode of the BBC One crime drama, Ted attended a meeting with superiors DCC Andrea Wise (Elizabeth Rider) and PCC Rohan Sindwhani (Ace Bhatti).

However, the meeting swiftly turned icy as his bosses were angry at Ted's decision to charge DSU Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle) without consulting them.

Ted defended his decision to "exercise the utmost discretion in who we share information with" in such a sensitive anti-corruption case.

*Line of Duty continues on Sundays at 9pm on BBC One, with past episodes available on BBC iPlayer.
