Line of Duty style corruption 'a reality' says former undercover Scots cop

A former undercover policeman claimed some Scots officers are as bad as the corrupt ones shown in the BBC’s Line of Duty.

Neil Woods, who is part of the Law Enforcement Action Partnership, said the illicit drug market is “destabilising the entire world”.

At a fringe event at the SNP’s spring conference in Edinburgh, Woods said: “If anyone has been following Line Of Duty and think it is far-fetched, well we should be scared.”

The TV drama, starring Martin Compston, follows the investigations of a police anti-corruption unit.

Woods said corruption has occurred in England and “guaranteed” it would be happening in Scotland. He added most officers are incorruptible but a minority can be influenced.

He claimed the issue is “endemic and cannot be defended against” unless drugs policy is reformed to legalise all drugs and remove the drugs market from organised crime.

The Scottish Police Authority declined to comment.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
