Line of Duty stars reveal behind the scenes antics in throwback Instagram snaps

They’ve tackled some gritty and violent storylines as part of Line of Duty’s anti-corruption unit AC-12, but Martin Compston, Adrian Dunbar and Vicky McClure keep the mood light-hearted when the cameras stop rolling.

A series of behind-the-scenes snaps posted by Compston (who plays DS Steve Arnott) during filming for the hit BBC show’s fifth season highlights the strong bond between the cast mates.

One shot, shared in November, shows the trio striking a series of poses as their make-up artists touch up their face powder ahead of a group trip to see the comedian Kevin Bridges.

“Another week down. Taking some of our lovely make up and costume team to Kevin Bridges,” Compston captioned the post. “As you can see they’ve earned a nite out [sic].”

Another amusing photo sees Compston lying on the floor of the show’s office set, joking that he’d had a “loooooong day at the office” as Superintendent Ted Hastings (played by Dunbar) “[made] us put in the over time.”

A third throwback picture shows McClure and Dunbar taking a break from filming to sip on smoothies.

The actress has also shared a selection of her own behind-the-scenes insights, including a photo of herself sipping tea from an AC-12 branded mug while her hair is styled and a hilarious clip in which she pranks Dunbar during filming.

The show, which drew in more than 7 million viewers for its opening episode back in April, is set to draw to a conclusion on Sunday with a “nail-biting” feature length finale.

Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby try to get Line of Duty spoilers from Rochenda Sandall

The BBC has confirmed that the series will culminate with a special 90 minute instalment, in which “closely guarded secrets” will finally be revealed.

However, actress Rochenda Sandall has hinted that fans might not learn H's identity, telling This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: "It will certainly have some form of conclusion, but as I'm sure you're all aware, there's still another series to go... and there's lots of details."

Line of Duty concludes on BBC One on Sunday at 9pm
