The stars of Line of Duty were sure to have caused a stir in Belfast as they filmed dramatic scenes for its sixth series.

New episodes of the BBC police drama are set to include a terrifying armed stand off with lives left hanging in the balance.

The inside info was unveiled today when stars including Vicky McClure and Martin Compston were spotted filming in Belfast.

These incredible behind-the-scenes pictures were captured by Belfast Live photographer Justin Kernoghan, and give fans a taste of what they can expect when the show returns to BBC One in 2021.

Season six of the hit show, which was created by Jed Mercurio, resumed filming in September after stopping due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking previously, Jed said: "We know Line of Duty fans are desperate for series six and we hope we can get it on air as soon as possible."

Speaking earlier this month, Vicky McClure, who plays DI Kate Fleming, said: "Been sitting on these incredible scripts for some time now, so I’m really looking forward to getting back to it and seeing the Line Of Duty family."

Newcomers Shalom Brune-Franklin, Perry Fitzpatrick, Andi Osho and Prasanna Puwanarajah are also set to star in the hit TV-series.

In one picture taking on location today, Adrian Dunbar, who plays Ted Hastings, is seen wearing sunglasses and a protective face mask as he stands chatting casually to an actor wearing a balaclava and carrying a fake handgun.

Actors playing armed police officers are stood nearby, with most people keeping their hands stuffed in their pockets during the chilly filming session.

The gunman is seen pointing his weapon at another actor in dramatic scenes, while armed officers approach him with caution in what could be the next big case for AC-12.

This time, the team will be investigating DCI Joanne Davidson, played by Kelly Macdonald, the senior investigating officer of an unsolved murder case.

Vicky was on the set, wrapping up in a baggy orange hoody and also wearing a face mask between scenes.

The Line Of Duty production team say they have been adhering to comprehensive protocols to ensure that the new series is produced in a safe and responsible manner.

Martin, who stars as DS Steve Arnott, was seen looking very serious as he stood with his arms folded by a van on the set.

He was wrapped up in a black coat and kept things casual between his scenes in joggers and trainers.

It looks like fans are set for another thrilling series when the show returns.
