Line of Duty star steals show with dance during speech at National Television Awards

Line of Duty star Tommy Jessop left the audience cheering after dancing and posing during the acceptance speech at the National Television Awards.

The BBC crime series was handed the award for Best Returning Drama, beating The Crown to the gong.

As the writer Jed Mercurio started the acceptance speech at the ITV awards, it was Tommy who stole the show with his moves, Birmingham Live reports.

The 36-year-old plays Terry Boyle in the hit series, which stars Nottingham actress Vicky McClure, who plays DCI Kate Fleming.

Tommy is one of the first actors with Down's syndrome to star in a prime-time drama.

And viewers branded him a "hero" at the National Television Awards as he began dancing and posing like Bruce Forsyth as the crew and cast accepted the award.

During the speech Martin Compton, who plays DI Steve Arnott, also dropped a big hint that the show could be returning for a new series. He said: "This means so much, like we started as a wee show on Wednesday night on BBC Two and now we're the biggest drama on TV and it's all because of the fans, we owe everything to you.

"We genuinely don't take this for granted and who knows, maybe we'll be back again."

The cast were delighted to receive the award on Thursday evening, September 9, including Vicky, added in a video post on Instagram: "I am so blessed and so grateful to everybody who voted for our show.

"Massive love and as Martin and Eddie both said, he is hoping we will be back."
