Line of Duty star Martin Compston warns followers over fake Instagram account targeting women

Scots actor Martin Compston has warned his social media followers over a fake account which is pretending to be him and targeting women.

The Greenock -born star called on his over 51,000 followers on Instagram not to be lured into the page and ignore it.

In a post on Instagram he thanked people for getting in touch with him about the account which looks identical to his own.

Compston posted a screenshot of the user who is attempting dupe women into thinking they are being contacted by the Line of Duty star.

In an Instagram post, Martin wrote: "Hey troops this stuff is usually harmless but this fake account apparently been messaging a lot of my female followers for details.

"Obviously not me thanks for people getting in touch to give me a heads up."

Compston is most known for his role as Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott in the crime drama Line Of Duty.

The show has become the biggest TV show of 2019 with more than 7 million people tuning in to watch the police drama, according to the BBC.
