Line Of Duty star Martin Compston's real life mystery as someone steals his identity

Line Of Duty 's Martin Compston has a real life mystery of his own to solve - someone has stolen his identity.

The actor took to Twitter to warn fans away from a fake Instagram account.

He says someone is posing as him in a bid to contact his female fans.

The star, who is married to actress Tianna Flynn, shared a screenshot of the account, that appears on first glance to be legit.

The page has a link to what appears to be Martin's official website, but actually doesn't exist.

It's covered in snaps of Martin and his work and also carries a tagline claiming it is "The official account of Martin Compston."

But the star, who plays DS Steve Arnott in the BBC series, posted it on Twitter to say it's not him.

He said: "Hey troops this stuff is usually harmless but this fake account apparently been messaging a lot of my female followers for details. Obviously not me thanks for people getting in touch to give me a heads up"

His fans had a bit of fun in response, suggesting he should easily be able to crack the case.

One said: "AC-12 is on the case," referencing his TV team.

"Serve em a yellow notice," another told him.

While one commented: "Your pals in the bizzies should be able to help here"

One of his followers joked: "it's fake!? You promised me a night i'd never forget"

Others said Martin was right to bring the fake account to their attention and told him they'd share his post to help spread the word.

"Well done," one told him.

One woman shared a screenshot of messages she'd received from the fake account, telling Martin: "Aah, so you’re not grateful for my support & encouragement? Don’t tell me you can spell ‘where’ properly too..."
