Line of Duty star Martin Compston pleads with Scots to follow Covid guidelines

Line of Duty star Martin Compston appealed to Scots to 'follow the basic guidelines' to help stop the spread of Covid-19.

Greenock -born Martin pleaded with fans through NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's social media accounts on Thursday.

The 36-year-old took a break from filming scenes as D.S Steve Arnott to share the message with Scots followers.

He said: "I completely sympathise; at the moment it feels like the rules are changing every day in location, location.

"But something that has never changed is the basic guidelines.

"They are wash your hands, wear a mask and social distancing.

"I know it seems like these things have been drummed over and over and are losing all meaning, but they really do make a difference and go a long way to helping those on the frontline."

From Friday five health boards in the central belt, including Greater Glasgow and Clyde, will see pubs, bars and restaurants close until October 26.

The move is part of a wave of new measures to help suppress the rising cases of Covid-19.

So far the deadly bug has claimed the lives of over 2,500 Scots.

In the past 24 hours 1,027 new coronavirus cases were recorded.

Of the new cases, 405 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
