Line of Duty star Martin Compston backs former Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke for Scotland job

DS Steve Arnott from Line of Duty, otherwise known as Martin Compston, has tipped Steve Clarke to succeed as Scotland boss.

The former Kilmarnock gaffer left Rugby Park for the final time yesterday, and he took up the Hampden hotseat this morning.

And former Morton player Compston has thrown his weight behind Clarke.

He told the BBC: "The stars are aligning in some way, he's perfect for the style we need.

"It's the kind of games right now, Belgium away, you would have written that off - but with Steve Clarke in charge, maybe I am being a bit over optimistic, but I'd fancy us to go out there and get something.

"We do have a talented squad, it just needs the right man to guide them.

"We maybe just need to get back to basics and be hard to beat. All the great Scotland teams were first and foremost hard to beat.

"We need to bring pride back to the badge, and what a carrot that will be for him, because whoever takes this job can make themselves a legend by getting to a major championships."
