Line of Duty star hints at a seventh series of the hit BBC drama and says his character is 'misunderstood'

Ever since the credits rolled on the final episode of the sixth series of BBC's Line of Duty, fans have been desperate for more. Now, one star has offered his thoughts on whether more episodes are coming from writer Jed Mercurio.

Actor Owen Teale, who plays the dodgy Chief Constable Philip Osborne in the popular BBC series, talked to WalesOnline at BAFTA Cymru 2022. The 61-year-old, from North Connelly, near Bridgend, said: "I think yes" when asked about whether he thinks a seventh series will ever come to fruition. For Owen, BAFTA Cymru 2022 proved to be a successful night as he took home the Best Actor award for his role in the film, Dream Horse. Read here for all of the winners from the event.

The actor added that he "couldn't possibly comment" on whether his Line of Duty character was the one who was 'pulling the strings'. Since Chief Constable Osborne's introduction in the first series, viewers have had their suspicions about the character. Teale said that he thinks Osborne is "very misunderstood, caring, a pillar of the community and of the establishment and of the institution that is the wonderful, vulnerable Metropolitan Police".

In Line of Duty's sixth series, the question as to the identity of 'H', was finally answered when Ian Buckells (played by Nigel Boyle) was revealed to be the mysterious 'fourth man'. Since then, the BBC and Line of Duty writer Jed Mercurio have been coy about plans for a seventh season.

The latest series wrapped up many of the loose ends from previous seasons with throwbacks to Sands View, Corbett, Jackie Laverty, The Caddy and Tommy Hunter. Despite this, series six also attracted over 10 million viewers each week and there is an appetite for more episodes.
