Line of Duty 'set for return' as bosses 'draw up plans for 7th series'

Line of Duty fans, rejoice, for the next series could well be on the way.

It has been claimed the much-anticipated seventh series was officially green lit after bosses at the BBC negotiated with the show's stars.

An insider said: "Another series is happening. This is the news millions of fans have been hoping for."

The Daily Star reports Line of Duty stars Martin Compston, Adrian Dunbar and Vicky McClure will return to screens after top secret salary negotiations.

It comes only weeks after Martin Compston said he wouldn't return for another series "just for the sake of it".

However, reports indicate eager fans of the hit police drama will have to be patient.

Line of Duty series seven is officially on - but fans might have to wait years (BBC)

"A lot of stuff still needs to be agreed and it is likely to take a while. Fans will probably have to wait a few years before it airs on TV," the insider added.

Line of Duty was a runaway success for the BBC with an average of 12.8 million viewers tuning in to the sixth season finale last May.

The Beeb announced announced the finale set the record for the most watched episode of any drama since modern records began in 2002, excluding soaps.

It beat out the previous record holder, ITV's police drama Heartbeat which has 13.2 million viewers in 2001.

The series' millions of fans will be eager to see the seventh series announced, although many complained of being disappointed by the sixth series finale.
