Line of Duty series six will have 'perfect end', says star Martin Compston

Actor Martin Compston says fans will get some "big answers" when series six of Line of Duty ends on Sunday.

Viewers can't wait for the finale of the popular BBC show and hope to find out the identify of 'H'.

Ahead of the eagerly awaited episode, Martin Compston, who plays DS Steve Arnott, says it could actually be the "perfect ending" to the police drama.

However fans shouldn't panic just yet as he has also refused to rule out a seventh series.

Speaking on the Shrine of Duty podcast, Martin, 36, confessed that although it could be a perfect ending, it doesn't mean the drama is going to disappear from our screens forever.

When quizzed about H's identity, he told listeners he wouldn't go the same "no comment" route Vicky McClure did, but added: "What I will tell you is I think there's a lot of pay offs coming this Sunday."

He said: "There's a lot of big answers and it's deserved, people have stuck with us for a long time, so there comes a point where the story arch comes to an end."

And he admits he's as much in the dark as viewers about whether a series seven will pan out.

"We don't know [if there will be another] - that's nothing new," he said. "Jed always takes time after a series, like a couple of months.

"There's a lot of stuff above my pay grade like analytics and audience scores. He takes the emotion out of it and looks at all that."

Later in the chat, Martin discussed how difficult certain scenes are to film, reports The Mirror.

He described how in big interview scenes "the tension is unreal" because of how long they are.

And he admitted that aside from the Ted-isms that are heard in the show, actor Adrian Dunbar made a few errors while filming the 30 minute-long interrogation scene after Jo Davidson [Kelly MacDonald] was arrested last week.

"Adrian had a bit of a brain freeze - but animal themed," he confessed. "And when he was on a rant at Kelly, he says 'a bunch of racist thugs', but it comes out as 'slugs'.

"There was a mountain of evidence, but he said 'there's a mountain of elephants coming at you'. And we were just like, what is going on?"

Martin admits that as soon as the giggles begin on set, it's tough to refocus.

One thing is for sure and that is that it's bound to be an explosive end to an action-packed series that will have fans chomping at the bit for more.

Line Of Duty will be on this Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
