Line of Duty series 6 start date has been confirmed - and fans have got 'goosebumps'

Fans are excited to learn that they don't have too long to wait before Line of Duty is back on our screens.

The BBC has released a teaser for its much-loved drama along with its return date, sending viewers into a frenzy.

One fan of the show, created and written by Jed Mercurio, said they were 'salivating' after watching a 15 second trailer shared with fans during the Six Nations rugby match.

The highly anticipated sixth season of the acclaimed police corruption series will return to BBC One on Sunday March 21 at 9pm.

The dramatic teaser features Adrian Dunbar returning as Superintendent Ted Hastings, Vicky McClure as DI Kate Fleming and Martin Compston as DS Steve Arnott.

This series there will be a new recruit to Anti-Corruption Unit 12 with Shalom Brune-Franklin joining the cast as DC Chloe Bishop.

And there will be seven episodes instead of six, making the upcoming series the longest yet.

"Mother of God!! I can't wait," one fan quoted Hastings.

"The best programme on TV! Watched it faithfully since the 1st series when it was on BBC2," tweeted another.

"The music just gives you goosebumps and gets your heart racing," said another.

"Nothing else matters but Line of Duty," said another excited fan.

"The best intro to a TV show simply using four different musical notes," enthused another.

"Fab. Something to look forward to," said another viewer.

"I am...salivating," tweeted another.

Trainspotting actress Kelly Macdonald will guest star as Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson, a senior investigating officer on an unsolved murder case whose unconventional conduct raises the suspicions of AC-12, the anti-corruption branch around which the series revolves.

Series five aired in March 2019.

Filming on series six, which started in February 2020, has suffered delays as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
