Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure spoke Welsh on telly and fans loved it

We already knew she was a brilliant actress and and pretty sound person but now Line of Duty star Vicky McClure has gone one step further to becoming a bonafide honorary Welshie, by speaking Welsh on TV. Vicky, who was in Merthyr Tydfil over the bank holiday weekend, appeared on S4C's Heno and had a crack at addressing viewers in Welsh.

Vicky, along with partner, Merthyr filmmaker, writer and TalkSport host, Jonny Owen, were in town to host a fundraising night for Merthyr Town FC, of which they are sponsors, and the nightly TV show managed to grab Vicky for a chat and test her Welsh chat.

A far cry from AC-12's stern Kate Fleming, Vicky couldn't stop giggling as she said: "Fi yw Vicky McClure, croeso i Heno," as she said she was trying to do a Welsh accent.

Fans were loving Nottingham native Vicky's efforts from the stands in the valleys, and shared their praise on Twitter: "Sounds proper welsh too! Cracking accent!" one fan wrote. Another said: "Da iawn Ficki (no letter V in Welsh)"

One fan even suggested she sign up for S4C Welsh learner's show, Iaith Ar Daith, where celebs try to learn Welsh with the help of another famous face. Strictly's Amy Dowden is part of the latest line up. Owen Hathaway wrote: "'My sweet spot in life is watching people who don’t speak Welsh make a genuine effort when they try. It’s always heartwarming. Pwy sydd am weld @Vicky_McClure ar iaith ar daith?"

Jonny and Vicky's links with Merthyr are strong and their new production company, BYO Films, features as sponsor on The Martyr's kits.

BYO Films has just partnered with an international distribution company, All3Media, which will sell the company's productions around the world. The first project from BYO will be Without Sin, a four-part psychological thriller exploring the relationship which develops between a grieving mother, played by McClure, and the man she believes murdered her daughter. And for anyone wondering if Jonny, the man behind the I Believe in Miracles and Don't Take Me Home football documentaries, is putting his skills to another project about the beautiful game with BYO - he is. More on that when we get it.
