Line of Duty's Vicky McClure seen for first time in public after fans fear character death

Line of Duty star Vicky McClure was seen outside in public for the first time since fans began worrying about the fate of her character.

During Sunday’s episode of the police drama, eagle-eyed fans noticed the actress’s name was missing from the cast list.

Considering Vicky - who plays DI Kate Fleming - has been part of the series since the beginning, it’s no shock people were worried to see her name disappear.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Vicky paid no mind to the fan panic as she stepped out to the convenience store.

She looked worlds away from her usual character on the show as she rocked blonde highlights in her usually dark locks.

The actress wore a leopard-print face mask and a casual black sweater which she paired with light blue jeans.

Vicky also wore black-framed glasses.

Her outing comes after her character, DI Fleming, was lured to a lorry park by her boss Jo Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) and ended up in a stand-off with OCG member PC Ryan Pilkington (Gregory Piper) during Sunday’s episode.

As the pair screamed “drop the gun” at each other, the audience heard two shots – but it was unclear who had fired first or whether either had been hit.

Fans have been agonising over the possibility one of the main trio of anti-corruption officers – Kate, DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) and Supt Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) – would die after creator Jed Mercurio stressed nobody was safe.

Speaking on a podcast with ex-cast member Craig Parkinson, she said her death might be necessary for the plot, just as his had been after three series of playing corrupt officer “Dot” Cottan.

She told him: “Well every episode is terrifying and Jed is always there to serve the story – it is exactly what happened with Dot. Dot’s time came when it was right to serve the story and that is what Jed will always do. I don’t want to put everything out there but Jed serves the story.”
