Line of Duty's Vicky McClure is a huge Greggs fan - as her 'burner phone' proves

Line of Duty star Vicky McClure is a huge fan of Geordie bakery chain Greggs - and she's got some concrete evidence to prove it.

Vicky, who play's DI Katie Fleming in the hit BBC show, is now the owner of her own Greggs 'burner' phone, which was delivered to the Bafta winning actress to celebrate her 38th birthday.

The special Greggs package invited Vicky to transfer from her role as DI Kate Fleming to OG-12 –‘The Original Greggs Unit’ – and ‘authorised to call in a baked response unit’ to trigger a delivery of treats to a charity of her choice by replying to an awaiting text message from G.

Vicky, who comes from Nottingham, chose to treat Our Dementia Choir to a delivery.

The distinctive package was designed with a bullet hole through the Greggs logo, the Central Police crest changed to a sausage roll and included the opening line ‘Fancy a Greggs, mate?’.

As she unboxed the parcel on Instagram, Vicky said: “I got my burner, I got my text, I replied with Our Dementia Choir from DI Fleming, just waiting on a delivery guys. Greggs, I mean what can I say, that’s just unreal, love you forever.”

Greggs chose to thank Vicky for her support of the bakers, who she has spoken about her love for. In an interview, the This Is England actress said: “It would be very hard for me to move to Hollywood because I’d be nowhere near a Greggs and I don’t think I’d like a life without a sausage roll.”

Line of Duty cast mate Martin Compston has teased Vicky before for her passion for sausage rolls, tweeting: “When you hear Greggs reopens after lockdown.” To which she replied: “First in the queue.”

A Greggs spokesperson said: “Line of Duty has kept the nation on the edge of their seats, so following last weekend’s gripping finale we wanted to have a bit of fun, celebrate Vicky’s birthday and give her the opportunity to arrange a delivery to a charity of her choice whenever she chooses.

“Once we’d established Vicky’s sit-rep, our Greggs CHIS moved in to drop the burner at a covert location, and we have well-placed sources on standby to carry out Vicky’s command to give Our Dementia Choir a tasty treat.”
