Line of Duty's Vicky McClure and Jed Mercurio confirm new thriller

Line of Duty's Vicky McClure and Jed Mercurio are working together on another television series, they have confirmed.

The announcement comes following the highly-anticipated finale of Line of Duty series six, which aired earlier this month and saw 12 million BBC viewers tune in.

Writer Jed is yet to confirm whether there will be a season seven of Line of Duty, but it looks like he will be pretty busy producing another show, Trigger Point.

The new six-part ITV series, written by Daniel Brierley and produced by Jed's HTM Television, has been described as a "high octane thriller"

It will be set in contemporary London and focus on the work of a bomb disposal squad called 'Expo'. Vicky, who played Kate Fleming in Line of Duty, will take on the role of front line officer Lana Washington.

Sharing the news with the picture of a script on social media, Vicky said: "This has been waiting in the wings a while, great to read through with a brilliant cast today.

"Daniel's written an amazing script and great to be back in business with @jed_mercurio and @htmtelevision @itv #triggerpoint."

Jed also shared the news and wrote: "Brilliant scripts, brilliant cast. Can't wait to start filming Trigger Point for @ITV written by Daniel Brierley starring @Vicky_McClure."

ITV by Head of Drama, Polly Hill, said: "Trigger Point has you on the edge of your seat from the start. It's a brilliant script by Daniel and I can't believe this is his first commission.

"I'm delighted to be working with Jed who knows better than anyone how to bring these thrillers to screen and Vicky is the perfect Lana.

"It's a fabulous team and an exciting show for ITV."
