Line of Duty's Ted Hastings unveils new catchphrase in latest episode

Line of Duty's Superintendent Ted Hastings, played by Adrian Dunbar, has unveiled a brilliant new catchphrase in the third episode of the show's sixth series.

The character, who has already become a hit for his use of phrases like 'bent coppers' and 'now we're sucking diesel', shared a new killer one liner in a discussion with his boss, Andrea Wise.

DCC tells Hastings that he should give up the search to find 'H', a codename for senior ranking corrupt police officers, who Ted and his team in AC-12 track down.

"You were issued with a final written warning, Ted, don't waste your last roll of the dice chasing a phantom," says DCC Wise.

"Your enquiry into H should close. This isn't about old battles."

Ted issues the reply: "The name's Hastings, ma'am, I'm the epitome of an old battle."

Fans took to Twitter to share their theories about the show, including questioning why DCC Wise is so intent on them giving up the hunt.

One wrote: "Teds getting close, the top boss is trying to warn him off."

"She is dodgy as hell. Watch your back around her Ted," added another.

"I bet its her, why's she so desperate to close the case? H for her," wrote a third, and received a reply reading: "I also think that she is a strong contender for H. But you cannot exclude the possibility that she is more worried about the force's reputation.

"You have to remember she stood next to the PCC when he said there is no institutional corruption."

"I have to watch the whole scene but it looks like she has stopped short of making it a direct order. I think she knows that of she did he would not follow it. Also if she did it would like she was covering up corruption," penned another.

It comes as the third episode of the new series took us deeper into AC-12's investigation into DCI Jo Davidson.

At the end of the episode, Superintendent Buckells was arrested brought in for questioning by AC-12, with Kate Fleming and Davidson both helping to bring him in.

Meanwhile, Arnott and Kate have been circling in on PS Ryan Pilkington and his involvement with organised crime.
